What are Plasma Display Panels?

The Plasma Display Panel (PDP) is a promising technology for HDTV. PDP has more advantages than Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) in the aspect of large screen sizes over 40 inch and small thickness. However low luminous efficiency, high power consumption, and life time are still the research issues of the present PDP.

 

The structure of AC-PDP cellObjectives

PDP uses UV emission from plasma discharge. The luminous efficiency of the present PDP is only about 1~1.5 lm/W and it should be increased to 3 lm/W to compete with CRTs. Using the various numerical models, we study micro-discharge characteristics in a PDP cell and propose new designs of PDP cell and driving voltage pulses.

 Simulation tools

We have developed 2D, 3D fluid simulation codes(FL2P, FL3P) for a PDP cell simulation. Using these codes, we can easily obtain the information of plasma discharge in a PDP cell and diagnose its characteristics.
